TU Business Spotlight: Ugonnafish.com

Ugonnafish is dedicated to creating authentic fishing experiences by connecting fishing charters, fishing guides and lodges with anglers worldwide, and allows its users to search, explore and book fishing trips securely online.

While it is not the first tech company to offer a marketplace for anglers and business, it is the first to aim at providing a vast range of fishing experience from deep sea fishing in Florida to vacation at a fishing lodge in Canada, addressing a wide audience ranging from avid fisherman to families with every sort of budget.

Ugonnafish.com has incorporated in Florida in November 2017. The original co-founders, Pierre Jarry and Jean Desvernay, met in one of the many tech startups in Montreal. After a few (memorable) ice-fishing trips, the pair eventually started to brush a few ideas before coming up with ugonnafish.com in May 2017. What makes their approach different is that unlike many other founders without a solid tech background, the two co-founders have worked previously in the vacation rental industry and have a solid background in web development and marketing.

With an increasing scope on freshwater fishing trips, ugonnafish is aiming at being more proactive in regards to freshwater conservation.

Conservation has long been a concern for the two founders, and they hope to be able to be more proactive with ugonnafish. Ugonnafish CEO Jean R. Desvernay stresses that, “By being the connecting point between the public and recreational fishing business, we have the opportunity to promote water conservation and offer anglers the possibility to travel and make a contribution to the environment."

In effect ugonnafish plans to give their customers the opportunity to fund water conservation organizations during or after their booking. While this is the very early stage, ugonnafish is ready to get in touch with any organization who might be interested in receiving donations.
