Mike Connor solid choice for DOI deputy post

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Mike Connor, the Obama administration’s appointee to the post of Deputy Secretary of the Interior, is an excellent choice who will help the department navigate the challenges it faces throughout the country as it manages everything from land and water conservation to energy leasing and regulation on public lands, said Chris Wood, president and CEO of Trout Unlimited.

Connor is the commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation and has overseen some landmark water agreements, including a plan that enabled salmon to return to California’s San Joaquin River for the first time in half a century.

“Mike is an outstanding choice for Deputy Secretary,” Wood said Tuesday. “As the commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation, he has demonstrated a rare set of skills. He possesses superior policy savvy, and he’s balanced and fair in his approach to all stakeholders. He has a positive, can-do attitude that inspires all who work with him. The sportsmen and women of Trout Unlimited welcome the opportunity to work with Mike in his new job.”

Trout Unlimited is the nation's oldest and largest coldwater fisheries conservation organization, boasting 150,000 members who work to conserve and protect North America's trout and salmon watersheds. Follow TU on Facebook and Twitter, or visit us a
